Which pergola should you choose near the sea?
Choosing a coastal pergola: check the finish, wind exposure, fixings, drainage and maintenance requirements before requesting a proposal.

Quick answer
Near the sea, assess the whole installation: a finish suited to salt exposure, a structure and fixings assessed for the site, drainage and maintenance access. The Oazis pergola range has a Qualicoat Seaside finish. This does not replace an assessment of wind exposure or the care instructions for each model.
| What to check | What to request in the proposal |
|---|---|
| Finish | Identification of the finish and its care instructions |
| Exposure and supports | Site assessment, supports and fixing arrangement |
| Roof drainage | Drainage route and outlet positions |
| Equipment | Included sensors, optional equipment and operating instructions |
| Maintenance | Access to gutters, mechanisms and surfaces for cleaning |
Is distance from the beach enough to choose?
No. For a project in Oeiras, Cascais or another coastal area, also explain whether the pergola will be in a sheltered garden, on a balcony or on a raised terrace. Send photographs of open sides and surrounding buildings. Location helps establish exposure, but fixings and operating limits cannot be selected without assessing the structure and available supports.
What does a Qualicoat Seaside finish mean?
The Oazis pergola range uses a Qualicoat Seaside finish suited to salty environments. This describes the finish; it is not a wind-resistance rating for the complete installation. Ask the proposal to identify the finish and request the applicable care instructions. Choosing a colour does not replace that technical confirmation either.
How does wind resistance differ from safe operation?
A laboratory result relates to the conditions of that test. It should not be used on its own as permission to leave any pergola or screen in a particular position during strong winds. Model, dimensions, supports and site exposure need assessing together. Request instructions for the roof and each accessory, including what to do when the space is unattended.
Are rain and wind sensors the same thing?
No. Moraira, Altea and Denia include a rain sensor and remote control. A wind sensor is a separate option whose configuration needs confirming for the project. When comparing proposals, distinguish included equipment from extras and request an explanation of the controls. A sensor does not replace suitable fixings or operating instructions.
How should drainage and maintenance be planned?
Confirm where water from the roof is collected and discharged, taking account of flooring, doors and circulation routes. Ask for the access points needed to clean gutters and check mechanisms to be identified too. The cleaning plan should follow the model instructions and site exposure; there is no universal interval applicable to every coastal installation.
Do glass or screens resolve exposure at the sides?
They can address different needs. Glass retains the view in a side enclosure; ZIP screens help manage shade and privacy. Compatibility, supports and operating conditions need confirming. Enclosing the sides does not automatically turn the structure into an indoor room or guarantee the same wind behaviour as an open pergola.
What should you send for a coastal pergola assessment?
Start with the information below. Oazis prepares a free quote; a technical visit carries a fee to confirm before booking. Approximate measurements support the initial proposal and do not replace final measurements.
- Location and whether the site is a garden, balcony or raised terrace.
- Overall photographs, supports and every exposed side.
- Approximate width and depth of the area to cover.
- Preference for adjustable shade, a retractable roof or a fixed roof.
- Any glass, screens, lighting or other equipment you would like.
- Known drainage points and power supply.
